Bomber Fraktur was designed in the first year after 2 months of studying graphic design. The font was made in the course of a week-long workshop.

BRNO2016 was first designed by Vello Lutter in 2017 for a school course and later adapted by Mathias Väärsi for the book “Brno Guide”. The name comes from a sign in Mathias Gallery in Brno that Vello and Mathias took a picture with in 2016.

This font is based on an imaginary coming-of-age film, starring a fragile teenage girl.

Font Anne is inspired by the New York Club Kids movement. The club kids played with gender roles by wearing controversial outfits and make-up. The movement helped to create safe spaces for LGBT+ people.

Franz is a typeface based on a character with opposing personalities – one side of him is shy while the other is bold and outgoing.

Did you Frisbee today? Inspired by the dynamic movements of the 70’s Ultimate Frisbee players, Frisbee font adds some modern touch to those 70’s vibes. GARY is a font that was born through digitalising Binner typeface and making it clearer.

Heavy represents my understanding of “contemporary”, by channelling 1960s and 1970s history, youth- and subculture movements, music and film. A display typeface which references the past to create something better.

Initially, I wanted to create a “harmless” font, but in the process of creating it, the font acquired satanic attributes in the form of devilish “tails” and “ears”.

Hypha is a typeface that explores organic movement and shape. It is based on different fungi development and their specific filaments that make up the fungi’s body. The typeface also draws a lot of inspiration from archival Greek and Bulgarian typefaces and letterings from the second half of the twentieth century.

Igor Rounded is Madis-Igor’s Russian father in the family of fonts and life. His son is my first ever created font Madis-Igor. Igor does not know much Estonian so his words are composed of Cyrillic letters. His roundness comes from his beer belly and soft character.

The font is inspired by Master P´s 1998 Album “MP Da Last Don.” Classy and boujee.

Kandi is the first digital typeface by Anton Koovit. It was part of his graduation project in EKA.

The font reflects emptiness in stomach and soul of a Ketchup Addict, who is constantly dreaming of ketchup.

Kevad is a simplistic font that plays with two worlds at once. The digital nature of numbers clashes with the old school typewriter in this contrast between two worlds.

For my BA final project I experimented with different virtual tools that have a drawing functionality to see how different software can manipulate my type designs.
I drew a font family of 3 styles in Apple’s Keynote using a stroke with different weights. As the line thickens, the visual mistakes caused by the software become more pronounced.

The font has nothing to do with kiwis – instead it is inspired by early 2000s sci-fi visuals and loosely by the 1971 logotype of Nike.

The font is constructed from crumbled-angry eyebrows, which people have while swearing. Swearing was the topic on which my font was based.

A topic close to my heart is lighting. It plays a big role in my life. Without lighting I wouldn’t see what I am doing.

A glamorous font that’s essence is to look a little bit out of place and wonky.

The idea for the font came while listening to hip-hop. I wanted to create a typeface which would be based on graffiti, but at the same time be quite raw and powerful when large. I was reminded of my middle school days when I used to doodle similar letters in my notebook margins.

Together with the planes above her head, Leone starts flying while standing strongly on the ground. The font is inspired by the work ‘Leone à l’atterissage des avions’ of Michel François.

A font drawn in the open-source program Libre Office. Created as a part of Andree Paat’s graduation project which experimented with various virtual tools that have a drawing functionality to see how different software manipulates type designs.

Lopsakas is a bold, expressive handmade typeface inspired by natural forms—its name translates to “lush” in English. Each letter features exaggerated curves, generous stroke weights, and a fluid, organic motion. Perfect for statement titles, artistic branding, or any design that needs to stand out with character and flair.

Lumberjack is inspired by the forester’s ancient helper – the axe. Therefore the figures mix sharpness and clumsiness.

The outlined font symbolizes the wish to stay anonymous while the Cyrillic letters emphasize the Russian influences Madis-Igor has had his whole life.

Maurizio is a font inspired by outer space explorations, delirious states of mind and some personal experiences regarding music by Basic Channel.

A bulky font, reminiscent of the constructivist art movement. Made during typography class from a few existing letters.

MS Curvy is a monospace font based on the skeleton of the OCR-B typeface. The curviness brings a little more life into an often dull monospace style.

For my BA final project I experimented with different virtual tools that have a drawing functionality to see how different software can manipulate my type designs.
I drew characters in Google My Maps and generated 14 fonts from the initial drawing by distortion using the most popular map projection grids in the free web app Indiemapper.

NAPS (SCHNAPPS) is a typeface created during the workshop “Bars and Restaurants” in collaboration with the department of Interior Architecture. Kaarel Kuusk, Else Lagerspetz and Maria Muuk created a spontaneous salami and schnapps pop-up bar. The identity for the bar was based on the typeface NAPS, which was inspired by a script seen on the wall of a postmodern flower shop (architect Vilen Künnapu) in Tallinn.

This font is based on soviet magazines for radio amateurs. It refers to electronic schemes and typography style used in the magazines of that type and time.

The font is inspired by desert, Africa, and traveling around there.

The font represents a fictional character named Sato. He is a toymaker, who is forced to serve his state during war by rebuilding his toys into weapons.

Sensible Senseless font is inspired by David Byrne and his attitude towards music and art creation. The letters are blocky like his the Stop Making Sense tour suit and the feet underneath are dancing.

A revival of an unknown typeface, discovered on an early 20th century floor polish tin found at Andree Paat’s summer home.

Each letter of the typeface is combined of three pieces of a compass.

The Skeleton font is inspired by the font Baskerville centerline.

Stereo Sans on stereomeetriline esmapilgul loetamatu font, mille dekodeerimise võti peitub tähti moodustavate joonte projekteerimisel ühele tasandile.

Substanta’s source material is magazine Eesti Majandus (Estonian Economy) published in 1925. The letter anatomy has been made rounder and chubbier, which are balanced out by straight-edged serifs.

Susle is a type system based on the grid of the qwerty keyboard. All shapes fit together like a puzzle or a Tetris game, you can combine forms together, using it as a tool for visuals or for encrypting information. When all caps letters and numbers are typed next to each other they create a visual emblem.

A font inspired by duct tape created for the Interior Architecture department of the EKA.

Sharing some similarities with its structural father Times New Roman, The Times Apex aims to be the next defining font in the space-time continuum known as Typography.

“Tiltortion” is a name combined of two words: “tilted” and “distortion”. The font is inspired by the old neon signs which have gone into oblivion. Its smooth streamlining is replaced with pixels.

A typeface drawn on the walls of Tondi military base in Tallinn. It was realized in collaboration with the Tallinn Town Hall, and part of Koovit’s graduation project.

The font is inspired by reparation after destruction.

Ukranian dishes remind me of my childhood summers in Odessa. My grandma’s borscht, sõrnyky and varenyky reach above all fancy restaurant dishes and even salo on bread can be an elegant quick snack against hunger. My favourites are cherry varenyky  – dumpling-like delicious boiled pastries that are the inspiration for this font.

Typeface inspired by Sloten velodrome in Amsterdam.

Collaborative Font made using stencils of existing fonts together with not using those stencils at all. The letters are a combustion of 3 different fonts made by 3 different groups.

Volask was designed in the second half of the first year for a school course. The font was made only using CSS code.

A typeface expressing speed and movement.

A typeface modified for the Estonian Academy of Arts graduation festival TASE’16. The author of the initial typeface is Wei Huang.

Once when I traveled I stayed in a yoga centre. Inspired by that I made a font out of twisted characters. I want to give off a positive view on life from that yoga centre with an illustrative and playful depiction style.

The font-family Žak is based on a character, who is a hat-wearing vampire. One day he loses his dear hat and when trying to retrieve it, he discovers his impersonator.
